inspiration

This series is a study of how angst causes destructive behavior and deviancy. Robicheau uses beauty and crudity to symbolize this conflict within ourselves. She encourages the viewer to explore their psyches and aims to provoke contrasting emotional reactions and reflections; to have each piece revealed and transformed by the individual’s view.

Robicheau begins each piece with a practice;  connecting with her subconscious through experimenting with abstraction and composition. This sets the base for the symbolic content of the second layer that becomes the skin of the piece.

artist

Stephanie Robicheau was born in Clare, Nova Scotia. She was introduced to oil paint and clay by her parents at a young age, spending her childhood painting and sculpting. Her free time was often spent taking painting classes and workshops. As she developed, there grew a fascination for fabric as a medium and clothing as sculpture, driving her to pursue a textile education. In 2005 Robicheau attended the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design and graduated with a diploma in fashion design and a minor in interior design. In 2008, she moved to Halifax and continued her studies at NSCAD University. By 2009, Robicheau had worked for The Montgomery Theatre, Compagnie Marie Chouinard and Cirque du Soleil. After a five year hiatus, Robicheau returned to painting with a theatrical perspective of the human form and an abstract approach to composition. In 2009, she moved to western Canada to pursue her career and find new inspiration.

What You Need To Know

choosing the right piece

Commissioners provide the character (photo may be provided or, alternatively, Robicheau will find an appropriate piece). She will create the abstract painting with colours and composition that complements the portrait’s character and style.

Commission pieces can be any size and designed on various tableaus (wood, canvas, coroplast and various recycled plastics).

artistic liberty

Robicheau provides the client with a series of inspirational questions to ensure that the vision and design are aligned for each piece.

If you have specific requests, please mention them in the beginning. What makes Robicheau’s style so unique largely due to her method; connecting with her subconscious through experimenting with abstraction and composition. Therefore, she requests that you trust her process and artistic liberty.
